Darkfic can include H/C, but I'm personally averse to sap, so whumping isn't the sole criteria. For me dark fic includes deep angst, extreme violence or torture, and non-con.
Literary quality isn't a criteria: there are plenty of rec lists that will help you find the best fic. This list is to help folks when they are trying to remember "what was the name of that one where Daniel was choked by a boa constrictor...?"
I don't highlight what I think of as the best stories because mileage varies widely across the Stargate fandom. However, sgdarkfic readers now have a chance to vote on Darkfic Quality Picks, and those will be highlighted.
